Temptations

Read: 1 Corinthians 6:12-20

Food temptations are everywhere.  We are bombarded with food messages constantly and the message is eat, eat, eat! How can one possibly resist?!  The Bible tells us to flee temptation, meaning run from it as fast as we can.  While that works for some temptations, we can’t totally avoid eating. So what’s the solution? Simple, sort of…identify your downfalls and stay away!  My problem is chips.  I love potato chips.  Sometimes I just don’t buy them and other times I buy the reduced fat or baked varieties and then portion them out so that I don’t overeat.  Maybe your downfall is chocolate or cookies or bread.  Try the same strategy—don’t buy or buy lower fat varieties and portion out so you don’t overeat.

Another potentially destructive temptation is television and/or the Internet.  Believe it or not, sitting fixated in front of the TV or computer screen can lead to fatigue.  Getting up and walking or biking or swimming can give your more energy!  Try the same strategy—don’t turn the TV or computer on.  But if you must turn them on, set an alarm for an hour.  When the alarm goes off your time is up and it’s time for some physical activity.

Eat Well…When eating, stay focused on eating and avoid watching TV or eating at the computer.

Move Today…Exercising in front of the TV can be a way to stay motivated to exercise.  What will you do today?

Healthy Habits…
• At the end of today, instead of turning on the TV, put on some soft music and light a candle or two and enjoy the peace and quiet.
• Limit your Internet time to one hour or less.

Manage Your Time…What errands or activities do you need to get done today? Make a short list and schedule it!

Journal…Selah…Pause…Reflect…Is there “junk” you need to get rid of? Record any behaviors or habits you that tempt you to overeat or draw you away from God. Ask God to help you to provide the means to resist those unhealthy behaviors.
